Job description
We are currently working with a very reputable MGA who are seeking a Regional Director based in Scotland.
You must have previous commercial experience, and it could suit someone from an underwriting or broker facing/BDM, background.
This role would be remote based with regular meetings with the underwriting teams either virtually or off site at third party location.
Within this role, the Regional Director will lead and manage the commercial insurance function within their designated region, ensuring the delivery of profitable growth, strong broker and client relationships, and high-quality service. The role requires balancing strategic leadership with hands-on trading, ensuring business targets are achieved in line with underwriting appetite and company objectives.
Main Duties & Responsibilities

- Drive profitable new business and retention within the region.
- Identify opportunities for expansion with existing and prospective broker partners.
- Implement regional sales and distribution strategies aligned to overall company goals.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with brokers, clients, and industry stakeholders.
- Deliver compelling propositions and negotiate terms to secure and retain business.
- Act as the key regional contact, representing the company at market events and industry forums.
- Lead, motivate, and coach regional underwriters and business development managers to achieve financial and service targets.
- Foster a high-performance culture, encouraging collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Ensure training and career development pathways are supported across the team.
- Operational & Underwriting Excellence
- Develop and deliver agreed budgets for the region
- Oversee MI reporting and pipeline management to support regional performance.
- Monitor underwriting discipline, risk selection, and pricing in line with company standards.
- Deliver efficient, consistent service to brokers & clients, resolving escalated issues promptly.
- Influence product development, underwriting appetite, and trading approaches based on broker feedback.
- Support digital trading and ensure adoption of e-trade platforms where applicable.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven track record in commercial insurance, preferably in a leadership or senior underwriting role.
- Strong knowledge of SME and mid-market commercial lines.
- Established broker network and ability to build trusted, long-term relationships.
- Experience in leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong commercial acumen, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Analytical mindset with confidence in interpreting MI and market data.
